Mad Hatter’s Tea
Mad Hatter’s Tea is an elegant afternoon tea. Flutes of chilled prosecco are served
alongside of tea, adding a festive touch to the sophisticated atmosphere. Spring
tables-cape settings and fun centerpieces adorn the tables and the buffet is filled with
tiered stands brimming with delicate finger sandwiches, scones, pastries and desserts.
As the afternoon progresses, excitement builds for the Parade of Hats, a highlight of the
tea. Guests are encouraged to don their most fabulous headwear. The parade begins,
with participants strutting past the judges table showcasing their hats in four distinct
categories, including - Most Elegant, Vintage, Creative and Gentlemen’s Choice. As the
parade concludes, the winners in each category are announced and prizes awarded.
The afternoon wraps up with more tea, prosecco and delicious treats along with lively
conversation and the glow of satisfaction from an unforgettable fun afternoon tea.

Our elegant holiday party welcomes guests for an evening of holiday cheer- opera style. Cocktails are held dockside with the intracoastal waterway sparkling in the background. As the evening progresses inside, the high ceilings are adorned with sparkling chandeliers and festive garlands of evergreen, red ribbon and gold accents. The atmosphere is lively yet refined, with a soft glow of candlelight on each table where fresh floral centerpieces set the stage the stage for a festive evening. As the evening begins, the Swing Band strikes up, filling the room with the timeless, upbeat rhythms that beckon guests to the dance floor. Guests enjoy a sumptuous dinner of holiday favorites accompanied by fine wines. Florida Grand Opera Studio artists take the stage and their powerful voices fill the room, delivering stirring renditions of both classic and holiday-themed arias. The singers then invite guests to join in a sing-along of beloved holiday favorites. As the night draws to a close guests linger, savoring the memories of a magical evening filled with music, dance and the warmth of the holiday season.

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner has been a unique fundraising event since 1980. Imagine attending a party hosted by a charismatic opera society member and being surprised by unexpected guests, delightful food and a sense of playfulness. The setting varies, adding an element of surprise each time - whether it’s an elegant sit-down dinner, an outdoor barbeque and a game a bocce, a sail in the ocean, or even a wine tasting and art show - the spirit of the event is the same – unexpected guests, delightful food, and a sense of playfulness. Each dinner is a unique experience, leaving everyone eager to see who might show up next time
Diva and Impresario Celebration Tribute Luncheon
The Diva and Impresario tribute luncheon honors outstanding artists and distinguished local individuals who have played a critical role in advancing opera in our community. Held in an exquisite setting, the luncheon highlights the achievements of the featured opera star and culminates with the prestigious Dr. Arturo di Filippi Founder’s Award. During the pre-luncheon cocktail reception which offers guests the opportunity to mingle with the honorees and capture memorable photos there’s a sense of excitement and camaraderie. The elegant setting and thoughtfully crafted lunch set a tone of sophistication, making everyone feel pampered and appreciated. A tribute performance by Floria Grand Opera studio artists captivates the audience, filling the room with the power and beauty of live opera. The guests are moved by the artists’ talent and the heartfelt recognition of those who have shaped the local opera scene. The afternoon concludes with an engaging conversation with the recipient of the Dr. Arturo di Filippi Founder’s Award, offering insights into their remarkable contributions to the world of opera and leaving the guests with a sense of having learned something new and valuable.
Lyrical Lunch Series
The Lyrical Lunch series is a delightful trio of events held each season, where opera enthusiasts and newcomers alike gather to enjoy a preview of upcoming performances of Florida Grand Opera. Each lunch is thoughtfully designed to immerse guests in the world of the featured opera, from the menu to the music. Guests are welcomed and seated with friends and new acquaintances. Before lunch is served the short performance beings. An FGO artists provide an engaging commentary, offering insights into the opera’s historical and cultural context. Following the commentary, FGO Studio artists perform a selection of 2 to 4 arias from the opera. These live performances are the highlight of the lunch filling the room with the powerful and emotive sounds of opera and giving guests a taste of what’s to come. A Lyrical Lunch is a perfect blend of education, entertainment and socializing, leaving everyone feeling enriched and excited for the coming opera.
Member Meetings and Mixers
An Opera Society General Membership meeting feels less like a formal update and more like a gathering of passionate, likeminded individuals eager to shape the future of the organization. These meeting held three times a year (and sometimes combined with another function) are essential checkpoints where members come together not just to stay informed but to actively engage in the exciting journey of The Opera Society. Each person reporting doesn’t just report on the programming of fundraising events -they share the creative passion behind each event, offer tantalizing previews that leave you excited for what’s to come. You get a clear sense of how the funds raised are making a difference, fueling the passion and excellence of Florida Grand Opera. These meeting are more than just updates -they are a chance to connect, contribute and be an integral part of The Opera Society’s vibrant community.
Mixers are an event where passion for opera meets the thrill of discovering new connections. Generally, set in a lively restaurant each early evening mixer is a perfect place to unwind after the day’s activities. What makes the mixers truly special is the sense of camaraderie they foster. Whether you’re a longtime member or new to the Society, the informal setting encourages relaxed interactions, making it easy to forge new friendships and rekindle old ones.
