Dear Members,
Welcome to The Opera Society’s 31st year as Broward County’s major support group for Florida Grand Opera. Thank you again for giving me the privilege of serving as President of this prestigious organization.
Many exciting events and parties are being planned for your enjoyment. The chairs for the Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner series are busy organizing the dinners and luncheons which will take place throughout the year.
Our three Lyrical Luncheons will take place on November 5, Justin Moss will speak on Suor Angelica and Pagliacci; January 5, Dr. Gloria Kline will review the book The Bride of Lammermoor; and in April Andrew Bisantz will discuss the opera Carmen. Check our web site for locations.
In February, the Diva Impresario Awards Luncheon will be honoring Robert M. Heuer, who is celebrating 25 years as General Director and CEO of Florida Grand Opera. Other honorees are Grand Diva Irene Patti Hammond and Divas Elizabeth Hopwood, Beatriz La Rosa, Isabel Leibowitz, Tracy Nichols Roloff, Loretta Slater and Elizabeth “Betty” Young.
We have two events for spring. The ever popular Mad Hatter’s Tea will take place in March. And in April, a new fund-raiser entitled “Treasures Old & New” will debut. It will be an upscale flea market at the Leiser Center to which members will donate items for sale. All proceeds will benefit FGO.
The YPO’s In-School-Opera will visit one private and four public elementary schools in Broward County performing the children’s opera Papageno.
Our season will end with the Installation Luncheon in May. Continue to check our web site for dates, times and locations. I look forward to seeing you at our events and with your help we can keep Opera alive in our community.
Fondly,
Barbara Parent, President
