Mezzo-soprano Monique Galvão is excited to be a Studio Artist with Florida Grand Opera. Monique is currently a fourth year Resident Artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts. This past season she made her debut as Giovanna Seymour in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena and Bianca in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia. Past performances at AVA include Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Flora in Verdi’s La Traviata, the title role of Thomas’ Mignon and excerpts of Mozart’s Mass in C minor. Monique also debuted as Carmen in Peter Brook’s La Tragédie de Carmen with Chautauqua Opera Company and with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra in the repertoire of Verdi, Mozart and Strauss. The highlight of the 2022-2023 season included her debut of the traditional staging of Bizet’s Carmen at the Miami Music Festival to unanimous critical acclaim. Monique was also a finalist in the James Toland Vocal Arts Elizabeth Greenfield Competition and was recently the second prize winner of the Linus Lerner International Singing Competition. As a result she was awarded future performances with the Southern Arizona Symphony as well as a debut with the Amazonas’ opera in Manaus, Brazil. Her upcoming performances this season include the semifinals to the Cascais Opera International Vocal Competition, the Annapolis Opera Vocal Competition and the Finals to Loren L. Zachary National Vocal Competition.
